We are a short term crisis Mental health and Substance abuse residential facility. Our Residential Technician plays a vital role in supporting both the medical and operations departments. This position serves as the bridge between clinical and logistical care, ensuring clients receive appropriate medical attention while maintaining a safe, organized facility environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and committed to high standards of client care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Medical

• Completes admission/intake procedures for new clients, including paperwork, room     assignments, initial orientation, etc.
• Conducts property searches of clients as required by program standards.
• Performs urine drug screen testing of clients as required.
• Apply universal precautions consistently.
• Accurately observe medication administration, report refusals and PRN
• Performs urine drug screen testing of clients as required.
• Performs Medication Pass assistance as required and provides documentation as needed on MARS.
• Provides transportation services including patient transportation, donation pick-ups,agency errands, etc.
• Knowledge of drug and alcohol dependency, mental health, family systems and various recovery resources in the community such as Smart Recovery/ other resources in the community.
• Develop and maintain individualized records of client progress and participation in treatment including admission and discharge, individual, group, family, vocational (both individual and group) literacy training and other occasions as appropriate.
• Attend all required staff meetings, in person or online trainings, and educational workshops

• Communicate clearly and concisely with clients, staff, supervisors, courts, referral agencies, and other external resources, including documenting client progress, concerns, treatment responses, goals, and objectives.
• Recognize and appropriately respond to behavioral changes, crises, and situations requiring additional support.
• Maintain self-awareness regarding personal recovery matters that may affect job performance or client interactions.
• Demonstrate respect for the cultural backgrounds, identities, and lifestyles of clients and staff.
• Prepare for and facilitate assigned specialty programs.
• Complete COWS/CIWA assessments and vitals to support medical necessity.
• Support medication inventory and timely refill communications with LVNs
• Complete incident reports as necessary.
• Use telehealth systems and EMR for proper intake and documentation.

Operational

• Conduct accurate shift rounds and maintain cleanliness logs (fridge, bathrooms, mileage).
• Ensure clients are awake and ready for morning groups.
• Monitor and report behavioral changes or potential issues to supervisors.
• Perform perimeter checks and room searches; ensure supply inventories are maintained and secured.
• Facilitate or document groups when assigned.
• Follow daily shift duties and complete them by end of shift.
• Support grocery shopping, dietary accommodations, and cleaning supply storage.
• Maintain communication via Signal and email.
• Participate in morning huddles to identify and address facility needs in real time.
• Adhere to phone policies and supervise usage.
• Provide transportation when required and assist with coverage needs.
• Support onboarding and training of new or junior staff.
• Report performance concerns and collaborate with senior staff on corrective action.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and uphold professional code of conduct.

• Maintain proper certifications and renew before expiration (e.g., TB test, CPR, Med Tech certification).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Physical: Perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, sitting on the floor, reaching, grabbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be able to use hands for equipment operation.
• Mental: Perform in fast-paced environments with multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions. Must manage client interactions calmly and professionally in high-energy or crisis situations
• Visual: Perform visual tasks such as reading, writing, observing client behavior, and focusing on near and distant objects.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.     Education

• Completion of a Highschool or GED preferred
• At least 1 year of experience in a residential, behavioral health, or substance abuse treatment setting.

2. Licensure/Registration – RADT / SUDRC / SUDCC (if applicable)

• Active registration with the CCAPP Credentialing, CADTP Counselors, California Association of DUI Treatment Programs ( CADTP ) as a Registered Alcohol/Drug Technician (RADT) , Substance Use Disorder Registered Counselor (SUDRC) , or Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor (SUDCC)
• Must be in good standing with the CCAP/ and maintain a valid and current associate registration number.

3. CPR and First Aid Certification (required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).

4. Background Check: Must pass criminal background and drug screening in accordance with facility policies and state regulations.

5. Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with clean driving record may be required for transportation duties.

6. TB & Health Screening (must be obtained before start date or up to 7 days after hire).

REQUIRED COMPENTANCIES

Client Support & Supervision: Ability to provide consistent monitoring and supervision of residents in accordance with program policies, ensuring safety and promoting recovery-oriented behavior.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Crisis Management: Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to crisis situations, including de-escalation and proper incident reporting.

Professional Boundaries: Maintains appropriate staff-client boundaries and demonstrates ethical behavior in line with facility and regulatory standards.

Team Collaboration: Works cooperatively with clinical, medical, and administrative staff to ensure a cohesive treatment environment.

Cultural Competency: Sensitivity and understanding of diverse populations including individuals with co-occurring disorders, trauma histories, and varying cultural backgrounds.

Time Management & Organization: Demonstrates punctuality, reliability, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintains accurate and timely documentation of client behaviors, activities, and incidents per agency and licensing standards.
